I am an artist laddidi working with the abject and lots of gross gross things

Jojo Knowles (Sweden/USA) is a visual artist working with installation, sculpture and performance. Her artistic language comes from a critical lens on human behavior but it is filtered through sensitivity in material, emotion, and through humor. Most of her research and methodology centers around the abject, and how embracing that which makes us animal and “disgusting” can create more empathy and self-awareness. She engages with topics surrounding the relationship between humans, animals, and nature, commodification, hygiene and sterility, womanhood, trauma, and the absurd. She creates ideas for new realities to mend human’s relationship with themselves, each other, and with the nature around them. Revealing other possibilities for how to be human.
